How ProntoClaw Keeps Your Assistant Up to Date

When your phone gets a software update, you don't worry about losing your photos, messages, or contacts. The update replaces the system software, but your personal stuff stays exactly where it is.

ProntoClaw works the same way. Here's how we keep your assistant current while making sure your data is always safe.

What is ProntoClaw, really?

Think of it like a smartphone. OpenClaw is the underlying software — like Android. It's powerful, open-source, and anyone can use it. ProntoClaw is like buying a phone that already has everything set up for you — we take that software, test it, configure it, and hand it to you ready to go.

The ProntoClaw image is publicly available on GitHub. Nothing is hidden. Anyone can inspect exactly what runs on your server. We simply do the hard work of testing, packaging, and keeping it updated so you don't have to.

Your data is always yours

This is the most important thing to understand: your conversations, memories, and settings live on your own private storage, completely separate from the assistant software.

Think of it this way — updating your phone doesn't delete your photos. Same here. When we release a new version of the assistant software, your personal data stays untouched. Your chat history, your preferences, everything the assistant has learned about you — all of it remains exactly where it was.

"The software and your data are two separate things, stored in two separate places. An update only replaces the software part."

How updates work

The update process is simple and mostly automatic:

  1. We release a new version — with improvements, fixes, or new features
  2. Your assistant notices — it checks for updates automatically in the background
  3. You see a notification — in your profile page, a banner appears saying an update is available
  4. You tap "Update Now" — one button, that's it
  5. Done in under a minute — your assistant restarts with the new version, and everything is exactly as it was

You're always in control. Updates don't happen without your approval.

What if something goes wrong?

We test every release before it goes out. But technology isn't perfect, so we built in a safety net: automatic rollback.

If a new version has any issue — if the assistant doesn't start correctly after an update — we automatically switch back to the previous version. Think of it like an undo button. Your assistant goes right back to how it was before the update, and you can carry on as normal.

You don't need to do anything. The rollback happens on its own.

Daily backups

Your data is backed up every night, automatically. No setup, no extra cost, no action needed from you.

If anything ever happens — a hardware failure, an accident, anything unexpected — we can restore your data from the most recent backup. Your conversations, your assistant's memory, your settings — all recoverable.

Your assistant remembers

Your assistant can learn your preferences and recall past conversations. Ask it something you discussed last week, and it remembers.

All of this processing happens locally on your server. Your memories and conversation history never leave your machine. No data is sent to external services for storage or processing — it all stays private, on your own dedicated hardware.

Open source, open image

Transparency matters. The ProntoClaw image is publicly available — you can see exactly what software runs on your server. We don't hide anything behind closed doors.

OpenClaw is open-source, and ProntoClaw is a curated, tested, ready-to-use build of it. We add the convenience of managed hosting, automatic updates, and daily backups on top. But the core is always open for anyone to inspect.

One tap, zero risk

Updates are designed to be boring. Tap the button, wait a few seconds, and your assistant is running the latest version. If anything goes wrong, it rolls back before you even notice.
